Happy Mother’s Day to you! We know what it’s like in the trenches of motherhood, and we wanted to give you a gift to honor all that you do. Please enjoy the following tribute to mothers, as well as this beautiful interview with Jenny and Matt Townsend from Thursday’s radio show. Thoughts from Sarah:
One of my most treasured memories comes from when I was very young. I don’t remember how old I was, but I was young enough for my mother to be holding me, and singing as we rocked in a big overstuffed rocking chair. The flowered chair was so squeaky, that with every rock forward and backward, it sounded like frogs croaking in the dark. That sound, paired with my mothers beautiful voice was like heaven to me. I felt so safe snuggled in her arms.
As the years rolled by, I grew up and eventually had babies of my own. I remember the moment I became a mother. It is something I will never forget. When they laid my tiny baby girl on my chest, It felt like my heart was bursting with love. I had never felt such an instant love for someone I had never met! Through the years, I rocked each baby and sang to them just as my mother had for me. I held them closely and vowed in my heart, I would protect them, love them, teach them, and help them become everything I knew they were capable of becoming.
I’ve often wondered, what is it about mothers that motivates them to work day after day; cleaning up throw-up, wiping snotty noses, cooking endless meals, washing and folding laundry, driving for hours to and from activities, changing diapers, arguing with teenagers about curfews, spending sleepless nights feeding babies, or waiting up for everyone to be home safe. How do they keep everyone’s schedule organized, know the answers to homework problems, listen with concern to dating problems, and help build character in their children? What motivates them to do all this and more without one single penny for payment?
Love.
Joseph F. Smith said, “The love of a true mother comes nearer to being like the love of God than any other kind of love”. This made me think…If the love I have for my children is anywhere close to the love God has for me, that is some seriously powerful love. And I realized something else. He has vowed to protect us, love us, teach us, and help us become everything He knows we are capable of becoming.  So as mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends, our jobs are simple. Love each other. Isn’t that what the bottom line is? With all we do as mothers, (whether we have children of our own, or we are a mother figure to countless others), all that really matters is that we love.
This Mother’s day, we here at The Happy Gal want to send you love and let you know how amazing you are! The job you do as mothers is the most priceless gift you can give! You inspire us! We love you!
